Charter Township Of Waterford
The Charter Township of Waterford is 36 square miles and located just north of Detroit, Michigan and is comprised of over 150,000 residents. The township provides water for the surrounding counties through a series of pumps, wells, treatment and storage facilities. In order to more properly handle the security of these plants, the Department of Public Works wanted to install IP Video Surveillance cameras on the exterior and interior of each building.
The network that was designed to accomplish this is a two-tiered approach. There are water towers in each of the four corners of the township and a monopole in the center. These were all connected with a series of 45mbps full duplex wireless bridges. All the surrounding water treatment plants are connected to the these core distribution points via Point to Multipoint wireless bridge system. Each plant is receiving a minimum of 24mbps using a polling architecture.
To accomplish this, the Netrepid team designed and completed work for installations on 2 existing elevated water tanks, 1 existing 5,000,000 gallon water storage tank, 1 existing monopole. The team also designed and installed 27 new self supporting towers complete from excavation to stacking the steel.
The network provides dynamic and ready access to the network resources across the entire township. The most important part of this network is that there are a minimum of three IP surveillance cameras at each plant sending back DVD quality video to a 10 terabyte storage area network (SAN).
Prior to this network, many of the plants only had the ability to connect with dial-up modems. The new network provides the ability to remotely monitor and control all of the plant functions as well as remotely monitor the internal and surrounding areas via live video feeds. |
